CUMBERLAND COUNTY, [PA]--A Middlesex Township man who was accused of threatening to shoot a police officer is looking at up to four years behind bars. Michael S. Filaroski, 43, was sentenced Tuesday by a Cumberland County Judge to 24 to 48 months of confinement on one count of firearms not to be carried without a license. In July, as police were arresting his son, Colin Filaroski, on a drug-possession charge, Michael Filaroski threatened to shoot the police, telling them he was a member of the "Three Percent Militia" -- a self-described, far-right patriot movement that opposes government intervention, except as stated in the U.S. Constitution. Filaroski threatened to shoot everyone involved

UNITED STATES, [US]--A new report finds that anti-abortion violence last year was higher than it's been in 20 years — and now that newly confirmed conservative Republican Attorney General Jeff Sessions will oversee law enforcement initiatives that protect providers from harm, many advocates are on edge. According to the 2016 National Clinic Violence Survey published last Thursday by the Feminist Majority Foundation, 34.2 percent of U.S. abortion providers reported "severe violence or threats of violence" in the first half of 2016. That number is up from 19.7 percent in 2014 — and before that, the highest recent peak came in 1995, with an average of 24 percent. Anti-abortion terrorism pea

MANHATTAN, [NY]--One of the victims of a vicious beating is speaking out after an attack outside a Manhattan bar. The graduate student said he was with his twin brother at the time and believes the whole ordeal started because of a sticker on his cell phone denouncing fascism. The alleged victims told police they were attacked as they left Clockwork, a popular punk dive bar on Essex Street on the Lower East Side. They said they were initially inside the bar but decided to leave because they were uncomfortable around some of the other patrons, claiming several of them were wearing patches and insignia that appeared to identify them as part of the skinhead or Nationalist movement. He described

LOS LUNAS, [NM]--An attempt to liberate a man held at the Valencia County Detention Center last week ended with the inmate staying in his cell and four additional people being arrested and charged. On Wednesday, Feb. 1, the U.S. Marshals Service brought Andrew Pankotai, 35, to VCDC to await extradition on a bench warrant out of Pennsylvania. Pankotai, and his wife, Dixie Pankotai, 34, have lived in Belen for nearly a year after he allegedly absconded from Pennsylvania after pleading guilty to one felony count of burglary. When the date of his sentencing came on Dec. 30, Pankotai consulted with his lawyer, didn’t like what he heard and left the courtroom, said county Sheriff Robert Wolfe. V

GREENWOOD, [IN]--Authorities say an Indianapolis man accused of planning an act of domestic terrorism has been sentenced on unrelated charges. Thirty-one-year-old Christopher Byrne faces five years for charges of operating a vehicle after being a habitual traffic offender and carrying a handgun as a convicted felon. The charges stem from a February 2015 arrest. In the terrorism case, authorities say Byrne was arrested last year after a search of his car revealed a rifle, ammunition and liquids that when mixed form a toxic and combustible gas. Police say Byrne told them he was a "sovereign national" and refused to provide identification. The sovereign citizen movement claims the United States

ANN ARBOR, [MI]--The FBI is helping University of Michigan police investigate who sent a series of racist e-mails to hundreds of U-M college of engineering students on Tuesday night, university spokesman Rick Fitzgerald said. The e-mails were sent from a "spoofed" account of a U-M professor. Unlike a hacked e-mail where someone gains control of an e-mail account, a spoofed e-mail is a forgery designed to look like it came from out of the country. Three e-mails were sent to e-mail groups of U-M students. It's not clear exactly how many students got them, but it could include the entire undergraduate class of the college, Fitzgerald said. The e-mails included subjects such as "African American

VICTORIA, [TX]--Federal investigators say someone intentionally burned the mosque in Victoria, though they also said the evidence does not point to a "hate crime." The Jan. 28 fire that burned the only mosque in the Texas city of Victoria, some 125 miles southwest of Houston, generated international media attention and more than $1 million in donations. Community leaders said last week that they were praying the fire was an accident, but investigators said Wednesday that the fire was classified as "incendiary," meaning someone set it intentionally. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, mosque leaders and Crime Stoppers have pooled $30,000 for information leading to the arr
