ARAPAHO, [OK]--Prosecutors say a Texas man accused of fatally shooting two people driving along a western Oklahoma highway identified with an anti-government "extremist movement." Custer County prosecutors plan to use evidence about Jeremy Doss Hardy's political beliefs during his June trial to show a possible motive for the 2015 shootings. Prosecutors allege Hardy identified with a group that believes the federal government is plotting to take away American citizens' rights. Hardy is being represented by court-appointed attorneys. A phone message seeking comment from them wasn't immediately returned Monday. Investigators say the 37-year-old Hardy drunkenly shot at vehicles on Interstate 40

LACKAWANNA, [NY]--The investigation into an early morning fire Saturday in Lackawanna is currently labeled as suspicious. There appears to be more than enough reason for that. This is the second fire at the four-unit apartment building at 97 Ingham Street. A couple of weeks ago, someone set fire to a phonebook found burning on the front porch. That small fire only caused minor damage. Saturday’s fire was different. That fire started in a common hallway and stairwell used by all four apartments. Fire investigators confirm that at least one neighbor heard what sounded like splashing noises before the fire was discovered. Was this a person or persons spilling a flammable liquid? Samples from

WEST PALM BEACH, [FL]--The Martin County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Wednesday for stabbing a Stuart business owner because he said he thought he was "Arab." Deputies say Jeremiah Hendrix is being charged with a hate crime and is being held on a $40,000 bond. The owner of the Family Discount Dollar store on Dixie Highway in Stuart, Shinoy Mailackel, is recovering with 12 stitches in his arm. He says what Hendrix did not know is that he is not an Arab. “He probably thinks that because of my skin color that I am an Arab, but I’m not an Arab,” Mailackel said. The incident started Wednesday morning. Mailackel said Hendrix, who had been at the store in the past, came to the store to b

SUFFOLK, [NY]--One day after skipping jury selection at his own murder trial, a man accused of firing the fatal shot in a January 2013 Flanders home invasion returned to the courtroom. Messiah Booker, 32, informed attorneys and the judge presiding over the case that he would attend the second day of jury selection Wednesday after exercising his right to be absent a day earlier. Booker again referred to himself as “the beneficiary of the trust” and a “sovereign citizen,” while this time ultimately deciding that he wished to remain in court. Booker is one of four people charged with second-degree murder and first-degree burglary — and the first to stand trial — following the Prisc

FRESNO, [CA]--Kori Ali Muhammad told his family there was a war going on between blacks and whites in America. On social media, he referred to white people as “devils.” Earlier in the year, he released a rap album replete with violent, explicit, racially-charged lyrics, including referring to himself in one song as a “black soldier.” On Tuesday morning, police say Muhammad stalked the streets of downtown Fresno, fatally shooting three white men with a .357 revolver. Before surrendering to police, he allegedly shouted “Allahu akbar” and expressed hatred toward white people and the government, according to Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer. Local authorities said they don’t believe

AUSTIN, [TX]--The Austin man, accused of plotting a mass shooting by an FBI informant, may have ties to the group, sovereign citizens. In Steven Boehle's arrest warrant, the same confidential informant claims Boehle "exhibits sovereign citizen extremism ideology." The group's criminal elements have been tracked by Austin police for years. Austin police commander, Darryl Jamail, said they have seen an increase of sovereign citizens and cases involving them. For police, dealing with people who don't believe in the government can be dangerous. Commander Jamail is over the Austin Regional Intelligence Center. He said they only track people who break laws. Not groups, like sovereign citizens that

UNITED STATES, [US]--Today is the 22nd anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing; 168 people died in that attack carried out by Timothy McVeigh. McVeigh sympathized with armed right-wing militia groups. These groups are still active, gaining members online, and honing their combat skills in training camps. The Georgia Security Force, which is part of the 3 Percent Militia Movement, is one of the nation’s largest armed right-wing groups. They believe only 3 percent of colonial Americans fought the Revolutionary War, yet were able to overthrow British rule. Historians say the number of male colonists who fought in the conflict, closer to 25 percent. According to the Anti-Defamation League, mo

OTTAWA, ONTARIO, [CN]--The executive director of Ottawa's Islam Care Centre said someone left a "hateful" note before setting a fire behind the building overnight. The suspicious incident is the second in a week at 375 Somerset St. W. after a man vandalized that building, as well as the Ottawa Mosque. Omar Mahfoudhi said he watched surveillance footage of the suspicious incident, which he said shows a man slip a piece of paper into the mail slot at the front door of the building around 2:10 a.m. Wednesday. Approximately five minutes later, the suspect set a pile of debris at the rear of the building on fire. The flames blackened a door and wall, but didn't spread to the rest of the building
