FAIRBANKS, [AK]—There’s a self-fulfilling prophecy inherent in the sovereign citizen movement in America. Looking to the U.S. Constitution for governance, sovereign citizens occasionally form militias — well-armed and not infrequently well-manned — as a way to protect themselves from perceived overreaches of the federal government. But in forming those organizations, they often draw the attention of law enforcement officials and federal agencies — the very organizations they claim are abusing the powers provided to the government by the Constitution. Often, this culminates in members of the various militias sitting in a courtroom, being adjudicated by entities that they bel

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, [CN]—The vandalizing of several Vancouver businesses last week was an attack on our democratic values and should be a matter of concern for all citizens, whatever their personal opinions about fur. No one is obliged to wear fur in Canada. Nor is anyone forced to wear leather or wool, or to eat meat or drink milk, all of which are opposed by "animal-rights" purists. Animal activists are free to wear leather and to eat tofu. But this is not good enough for self-appointed Animal Liberation Front (ALF) vigilantes, who believe they have the right to impose their values on every-one. If others don't agree with them, they believe they have the right to destr

GAINESVILLE, [GA]—A federal magistrate judge denied bond for a north Georgia college student Thursday who the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) said admitted to building bombs. A small army of ATF, FBI, GBI and local law enforcement raided a house in the woods where the girl, Celia Savage, lives near Cornelia. A sworn statement by an ATF agent said Celia Savage illegally possessed a destructive device and possessed firearms while being an illegal drug user. Tommy Savage, Celia's father, described his daughter as a church-going college student but also a daddy's girl — enjoying hunting and fishing as she grew up. Like him, she is also a fierce advocate of th

SAMMAMISH, [WA]—A self-described "prepper" says while many stories of preppers and survivalists in the media make the practice seem nuts, it's really just about being responsible. As for the people that extend an extreme amount of time and resources to preparing for disasters, he said to each their own, but that's not his way. But he does take preparing seriously. He said the importance really hit him watching the devastation in Japan. He fears if something like that were to happen here, we'd be in the same boat. He observed how quickly things can go downhill during a disaster like New Orleans after Katrina. He said getting prepared is always a work in progress. For those interest

JOLIET, [IL]—The FBI arrested a Joliet man today on arson and civil rights charges alleging he set fire to the home of an African-American family living on his street in 2007. The eight children and one adult living in the home escaped the early morning blaze on June 17, 2007 without injury, but moved from the neighborhood after the fire. Brian James Moudry was charged with one count each of arson, using fire to interfere with housing rights on the basis of race, and using fire to commit another felony in a three-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury last Thursday and unsealed today following his arrest.  [Note: Moudry was an alleged member of Matt Hale's World Church of

MANASSAS, [VA]—An alleged white supremacist who has expressed hatred and support for violence toward a number of political figures was arrested Wednesday, accused of illegally obtaining a fully automatic AK-47. Douglas Howard Story, 48, of Manassas, was charged with making a firearm in violation of the National Firearms Act, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Story came to the attention of law enforcement through a confidential source who saw information Story had posted on an Aryan Nation website indicating that he was about to buy an AK-47 and have it modified to become fully automatic. Story allegedly said that he is planning on ambushing and murdering any law enfor

PICKENS, [SC]—When Pickens County deputies checked out a robbery report, they found something out of the ordinary. A note posted on the front door was from the “Moorish American Society of Philadelphia” which asserted to be judicial notice that the property had been seized pursuant to international law. It also proclaimed that any law enforcement officer on the premises was trespassing and subject to being sued. The burglary report was made on April 24th at a home on White Violet Way in Sunset. From prior research, investigators from the Sheriff’s Office were aware that the Moorish National Republic, a sovereign citizen group, and its offshoots are considered domestic terroris

TUCSON, [AZ]—Arizona militias determined to keep watch on the U.S.-Mexican border say they're done trying to get help from their state lawmakers — now they'll take matters into their own hands, they vow. The state's border-militia groups are seeing members becoming more motivated after plans for a state-sanctioned citizens border organization were struck down in the Arizona Legislature. Leaders of volunteer patrols along the Arizona-Mexico border said there is an invasion of smugglers and undocumented immigrants that needs to be stopped. Supporters say they are giving up on getting assistance from lawmakers. A regeneration of border-militia movements would contradict an earlier

NEW ORLEANS, [LA]—The executive director of "Women With A Vision" walked into a bizarre scene at her Mid-City New Orleans office Friday about 1 a.m. after receiving a call from her landlord that there had been a fire shortly before midnight. Although small fires apparently had been set in at least four different places in the group's offices — four rooms plus a bathroom and kitchen — the damage was concentrated in one room. With the walls blistered in black bubbles and the ceiling partially destroyed, the fire had destroyed or heavily damaged nearly all the contents of Women With a Vision's outreach office. With a focus on community health education and outreach for women and transgend

HARMONY, [NC]—It's a small town, but they voiced a strong message to members of the Klu Klux Klan..."No More Hate". Saturday, while most Americans were enjoying a long weekend or remembering our fallen heroes, members of the KKK had a planned rally in the town of Harmony, NC located in Iredell County. Imperial Wizard Chris Barker told WBTV earlier this week that the group chose Harmony because a member of the group lives there and has 20-acres that is private and big enough for the expected crowd. Organizers and members left flyers in two Triad neighbors in the past two weeks advertising the rally. Barker told WFMY that the rally was to get the white race to unify. View More>>
