BEAUMONT, [TX]—A man described by prosecutors as a general in the white supremacist Aryan Brotherhood of Texas has received a life sentence for the 2008 murder of a gang dissident in Southeast Texas. Steven Walter Cooke was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Beaumont. The 48-year-old Tomball man pleaded guilty in November to committing a racketeering-related violent crime and admitted to murdering 37-year-old Scott Freeman. The federal indictment said that Freeman was in a rival faction to the one led by Cooke and was recruiting members to join that faction. Cooke said he shot Freeman six times as Freeman sat behind the wheel of his truck. View More>>

GILBERT, [AZ]—Investigators said Thursday they found a half dozen grenades among the military munitions in a suburban Phoenix home where a former Marine with ties to neo-Nazi groups shot four people and then took his own life. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said the agency is tracing the serial numbers of six 40 mm projectile grenades discovered in Jason Todd Ready's house. The explosives were strictly military-issue and should not have been in a residence. Officials from Luke Air Force Base took the grenades and destroyed them.
