RIO ARRIBA COUNTY, [NM]—A group of Rio Arriba County residents are seeking the release of a woman convicted last year of a 2011 drive-by shooting, that left one man seriously injured, by challenging the jurisdictional reach of New Mexico's criminal just system. Geraldine Shaw, 51, is facing 15 years in prison when she's sentenced in District Court on Feb. 5 following her August conviction of five felony counts. But now the campaign to free Shaw has sparked an official inquiry into letters signed by Shaw's supporters and sent late last year to the sheriff and judge. HOUSTON, [TX]—Two members of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas (ABT) gang pleaded guilty to racketeering charges related to their membership in the ABT's criminal enterprise. Ben Christian Dillon, aka "Tuff", 40, of Houston, and James Marshall Meldrum, aka "Dirty", 40, of Dallas, each pleaded guilty today, Jan. 31, to one count of conspiracy to participate in racketeering activity. According to court documents, Dillon, Meldrum, and other ABT gang members and associates, agreed to commit multiple acts of murder, robbery, arson, kidnapping, and narcotics trafficking on behalf of the ABT gang. They met on a regular basis at various locations throughout Texas to report on gang-related business,

WEATHERFORD, [TX]—A Parker County jury Wednesday convicted Johnny Todd Preston of possessing about 10 grams of crystal methamphetamine with intent to deliver it, then sentenced him to 99 years in prison. MIDLAND CITY, [AL]—The family of an Alabama boy being held captive in an underground bunker by a man described as a survivalist is "holding on by a thread," a community leader said Thursday as the hostage drama continued into a third day. LOS ANGELES, [CA]—In an early morning raid at a Cello Drive home, FBI agents Wednesday arrested a Diamond Bar man in connection with a scheme that allegedly defrauded as many as 400 people who paid into a mortgage debt elimination scheme, officials said. Jude Lopez was taken into custody without incident. Lopez is the father of Jennifer Dejongh, who abducted the grandchildren of Rep. Gary Miller, R-Rancho Cucamonga, in 2007 and fled to Mexico. She was arrested in 2011. A woman, identified as Marcela Gonzalez, was also indicted by authorities in connection with the mortgage debt elimination scheme. MIDLAND CITY, [AL]—The SWAT team is converging on an underground bunker in rural Alabama where a man is still holding hostage a six-year-old boy he abducted from a school bus Tuesday afternoon. The police standoff with the 65-year-old man, identified by several sources as Jimmy Lee Dykes, continues into its second day this morning as negotiators try to convince the man to release the child - thought to be autistic - and surrender. Dykes is believed to have stormed the school bus in Midland City, Alabama, about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday and shot the driver four times before taking the child. The driver later died on his wounds. SALT LAKE CITY, [UT]—A Louisiana man who attempted to saddle Utah state court judges and other law authorities with billion-dollar debt claims will spend 30 months in federal prison. Robert Clifton Tanner, 45, received the sentence after pleading guilty to one count of mail fraud. Tanner, of Mansura, La., was described as the "brains" behind an alleged sovereign citizen scheme, though he denied that allegation during a detention hearing in October. Tanner and co-defendant Maria Melody Fuentes Cecil Mobo, 42, of Spanish Fork, Utah, were indicted on four counts of mail fraud in August. Mobo is set to go to trial in late February.
