UNITED STATES, [US]--Hate crimes against Sikh, Hindu, and Arab Americans will now be able to be tracked by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. After years of lobbying by community advocates and the support of 140 members of Congress, the DOJ and FBI have updated their hate crimes database and the FBI Hate Crime Data Collection Guidelines and Training Manual. Previously, no federal statistics were kept on hate crimes against these groups. The FBI Hate Crime Data Collection Guidelines and Training Manual is considered a critical hate crime training resource for law enforcement, and with the help of community advocates, now includes a special section to help l

MOSCOW, [ID]--The Palouse Militia wants to recruit new members. The group's been around for six year's and held its first public meeting this weekend. The purpose was to attract recruits and set the record straight about what they do. "Hateful things are said about our group, lies are told about our members," said Palouse Militia Commanding Officer, Jeff Williams. He says they're a group of citizens that train tactically to help local law enforcement in the event of an emergency or natural disaster. However, past politicians, anti-gun lobbyists and some locals are concerned by the existence of an armed and trained militia on the Palouse. Williams said that's not the case here. He said

SEATTLE, [WA]--Nathan Brasfield once held the dubious distinction of being dubbed a political prisoner by supporters on the radical fringe of the animal rights moment. Now, Brasfield is trying to dodge years in federal prison for a less romantic crime – unlawful gun possession. Brasfield, 36, was caught in 2013 bragging to an informant about a sawed-off assault rifle he’d modified for automatic fire. He described the gun as his “home defense weapon” – his Lake Forest Park home included a marijuana grow – and ranted about his inalienable right to own it, despite a lifetime of crime. Brasfield, who lost his gun rights as a teenage felon, has since pleaded guilty to unlawfu

FOND DU LAC, [WI]--Not much is known yet about bank robber Steven Timothy Snyder, the 38-year-old Michigan man who killed Wisconsin State Trooper Trevor Casper in a shootout Tuesday. Christ, 59, nearby shortly afterward, died in the exchange of gunfire with Casper, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation. CARSON CITY, [NV]--Outspoken Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy told the Desert Valley Times Wednesday he plans to be at the front of a contingent of Nevadans planning to rally at the Capitol in Carson City Tuesday to show support for AB408, a bill that “reclaims” rights to Nevada land from the federal government. The Legislative Counsel says section 3 of AB408, which was sponsored by GOP Assemblywoman Michele Fiore, “prohibits the federal government from owning or administrating any land or resources in the state that it has not acquired with the consent of the Nevada Legislature and upon which it has not erected forts, magazines, arsenals, dockyards or other needful buildings.” The b

ST. LOUIS, [MO]--A St. Louis man who discussed plans to kill multiple police officers is in custody on federal gun charges, but authorities searching his home Thursday still fear booby traps left by the man could endanger their lives. Confidential informants told authorities David Michael Hagler, 53, holds extreme anti-government and anti-police view and had a stockpile of guns and weapons in his two homes in the Baden neighborhood near the Halls Ferry Circle. He was arrested Wednesday, but authorities are concerned the two side-by-side homes he owns are booby-trapped inside and out. Hagler was charged Tuesday with possession of an unregistered "short-barreled" shotgun, an unregistered AR-1

BROWNSVILLE, [TX]--John Frederick Foerster, a 45-year-old member of a controversial group of armed civilians patrolling the border for undocumented immigrants, pleaded guilty Wednesday to being a felon in possession of a firearm. JACKSON, [MS]--Jackson police are trying to find out who damaged a generator and two security cameras at Mississippi's only abortion clinic. Clinic director Shannon Brewer said Tuesday that employees of Jackson Women's Health Organization found the vandalism when they arrived at work Monday morning. The security cameras outside the clinic, which are not required by the state, are also being replaced. A clinic spokesperson said one was pulled down and its cords were cut, and the other was bent on its support frame as if someone had tried to pull it down. The last footage taken by the cameras shows one person walking outside the clinic in the rain after midnight Sunday. The person was we
