POLK CITY, [FL]--A member of a sovereign citizens group was arrested in Pasco County on a Polk County warrant charging him with armed kidnapping and armed false imprisonment. Ronnie Davis, 48, was accused of forbidding a woman who had traveled from Texas to write a story about him from leaving the group's Polk City-area compound that houses him and between 10 and 20 other members of his sovereign citizens group, The Bears Law and Forensics Team, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. So-called sovereign citizens typically deny the legitimacy of the federal government, as well as holding a variety of other anti-government beliefs. The woman told Polk County deputies that Davis, who wa

NEWELL, [IA]--The FBI has been called in to help investigate a multi-million dollar arson case involving the Dakota Access Pipeline here in Northwest Iowa. Earlier this month, someone set fire to machinery and excavators being used on pipeline work near Newell in Buena Vista County. Damage is estimated to be around $2.5 million dollars. No arrests have been made and the FBI is trying to determine if this case is linked to other arsons occurring at pipeline construction sites in the region. The 1,170-mile Dakota Access Pipeline has drawn the most protests in North Dakota where the Standing Rock Sioux and other Native American tribes say the pipeline could pollute the Missouri River damaging c

PORTLAND, [OR]--Less than a year after launching an armed standoff in a federal wildlife refuge building, Ryan Bundy threw support yesterday behind more protest. Alongside his brother, Ammon, Ryan led a 41-day occupation of Oregon’s Malheur National Wildlife Refuge last January, in protest of the 2015 imprisonment of other eastern Oregon ranchers for arson. The Bundy brothers and five other protesters were acquitted last Thursday on charges of federal conspiracy for their actions at Malheur. They’re not all off free — Ryan is currently being held in an Oregon county jail ahead of a February trial involving his family’s previous anti-government standoff in 2014. But jail time does

CLEVELAND, [OH]--A brief glance at the robin’s egg blue, two-story home on the east side of Cleveland — complete with a low white fence around the raised porch and a grassy front yard covered by leaves — and you would not think it contained a small arsenal. Until, that is, you realized it was inhabited by members of the Three Percenters, a militia group, which named itself for the claim that only 3 percent of the population fought in the American Revolution. On its website, the group referred to itself as a “structured group of United patriots willing to protect our rights against a tyrannical government and foreign invaders.” The group seems particularly concerned with “Big Gove

UNITED STATES, [US]--Will Sims, a 28-year-old musician and retail worker from Richmond, Calif., was found dead of a gunshot wound in the middle of the street outside his hometown in the early hours of Nov. 12. Sims had spent the night out with friends. One of their stops was the Captain’s Chest Cocktail Lounge in Concord, Calif., where Sims sang a karaoke rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off,” the San Francisco Chronicle reported. At some point, Sims made his way back toward Richmond, stopping at the Capri Club, a pool hall just outside of town. Details of what happened next are murky, but authorities say a fight broke out inside. Three men beat Sims, robbed him, then shot him a

LAS VEGAS, [NV]--Carol and Myles Catania were living in a hotel, having been evicted from their suburban Las Vegas house, when they got a call from someone named Tom. He didn’t give his last name and wouldn’t say where he worked, but he offered them a sliver of good news: They could come back for their stuff. When they drove up, however, the bank-owned home was getting tossed. Strangers were throwing their belongings into trash bags, and one man told a laborer that once they got the safes open, he could take what he wanted. A few days later, a man named Thomas Benson sued for the property. And several weeks after that, he said police and federal agents raided his house with semi-automati

WEST PALM BEACH, [FL]--A man who authorities say is a self-professed founding member of a violent national white supremacist organization is facing allegations he planned to commit a murder-for-hire suggested during an undercover FBI sting in Broward County. Adrian Apodaca, aka Skitz, age 44, pleaded not guilty to federal drug, robbery and weapons charges, as well as a charge linked to the fake contract murder on Wednesday in federal court in West Palm Beach.
