UNITED STATES, [US]--The number of anti-Muslim incidents and crimes in the U.S. surged last year to some of the highest levels seen in recent times, according to a new report from a prominent Muslim civil rights organization. The report by the Council on American-Islamic Relations documented a 57% increase in anti-Muslim incidents last year compared with 2015. The victims included mosques set on fire, women whose hijabs were pulled off while walking down the street, Muslim groups that received threatening letters and Muslims who were denied jobs or promotions because of their faith or were “inappropriately targeted” for questioning by the FBI or other government agencies, the report said

PORTLAND, [OR]--A 29-year-old man is facing hate crime charges after he allegedly confronted two Subway employees and made a Nazi salute. The incident was reported last Thursday outside the Subway restaurant on SW 5th Avenue when two employees were standing outside. They were approached by Wesley Searles, who they told police they've had previous contact with. Police say Searles started mocking the two men and then made some racial remarks, including telling them to "go eat some [N-word] food." Searles then made a Nazi salute, court documents say. One of the Subway workers who is black told Searles he would beat him up had he not been working at the time. Searles then took out a switch blad

DELAWARE COUNTY, [PA]--For more than three years, a Pennsylvania group claiming to be sovereign citizens—and therefore not subject to U.S. law—schemed to “steal” dozens of foreclosed homes worth millions of dollars and sell them to unsuspecting victims. The scheme came to light after local officials in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, received documents declaring sovereign citizen status for three residents. Alarmed, the officials contacted the FBI shortly after receiving the documents in May 2010. YORK, [PA]--An apparent “sovereign citizen” accused of sexually assaulting his friend’s 11-year-old daughter while the girl slept — and who’s also accused of trying to get the girl to recant — remains in York County Prison on $1 million bail. When confronted by the friend about why he allegedly molested her daughter, Keith Aaron Miller allegedly told the woman, “I guess I loved you all too much,” according to charging documents filed by state police. Miller, 42, of no fixed address, is charged with the felonies of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of a minor as well as the misdemeanors of unlawful restraint, indecent assault,
