BROOKLYN, [NY]--The torching of a multicolored “mitzvah” minibus in Brooklyn has left local kids “devastated” — with some staying up all night, crying their eyes out — after hearing what happened, a rabbi says. The wacky whip had become a staple in the Jewish community thanks to its religious imagery and vibrant colors. It was created by Crowns Heights artist Leviticus Schieber about a year and a half ago as a way to make children and other residents feel proud about their heritage. Cops have been investigating the bus fire as a possible hate crime after surveillance footage showed a man standing near the vehicle before and after the fire. The bus had been parked near the corner of Troy Avenue and Maple Street in East Flatbush when the arsonist apparently broke its windows and set the vehicle’s interior ablaze sometime around midnight, police sources said. The driver stumbled upon its charred shell about 30 minutes later and called police. View More>>
