GRAND JUNCTION, [CO]--A 41-year-old man who sexually assaulted three children in 2014 was convicted of more than a dozen counts by a Mesa County jury on Friday. Dax Ace Anderson pleaded guilty to 11 counts of sexual assault and multiple other sentence-enhancing counts after his arrest in 2015. Anderson, who espouses anti-government beliefs associated with so-called "sovereign citizens," never once appeared before the jury during his trial before Mesa County District Judge Valerie Robison, although he filed multiple hand-written letters and motions with the court. Mesa County prosecutor Jennifer Springer wrote in an email that she was grateful to jurors on the case, which involved victim testimony. "Jurors in such cases must hear and see incredibly difficult things, and I observed the emotional toll it took on this jury as the young victims came into the courtroom and testified," Springer wrote. "For the child victims and their families, this trial had been a long time coming." Springer wrote that the initial investigation into Anderson began in December 2014, and sexual assaults on his young victims dated back as far as 2010. View More>>
